Today we woke up at 8:30, a little later than usual. Our plan was to visit the zoo and the perlan building which was having an exhibition called "saga" about how iceland was founded and stories during the early years.
We took a walk to the zoo which was about half an hour. Along the way I saw a mural of superman, the apple office, bus terminal (very small!) and other restaurants. Nings was one of them, apparently vietnamese. There's many Italian and American restaurants in Reykjavik which I found surprising, seems like Icelanders love their pizza and pasta. There's also Indian restaurants but we've just gone for the Scandinavian style ones because we're in Scandinavia afterall.
The zoo was quite small but had a varied range of animals. Many of the animals were kept in small enclosures.
Seals, these are located close to the entrance.
Chickens! There were also rabbits, guinea pigs and other bird within the same area. They were placed in a house.
Arctic fox. Its coat changes during winter and summer.
Reindeer at play.
There's even an area about science. Here's Lauren sitting on top of a chair with a seat that's made of nails. How comfortable is it? As comfortable as sitting on nails.
We also saw some crazy looking fishes.
Cows and pigs, the staple meat of many humans.
We had a lunch of large fries at the restaurant then went to the other half of the zoo which was an amusement park. Unfortunately it was closed, so no amusement for us. Here's me on the viking ship on the frozen lake in the amusement park.
Shortly after we walked to the Perlan building, took us about half an hour as well. There's an awesome view off the top of the building but it's too windy to shoot a lengthy video, I did take some photos though.
Perlan building where I took the following photos. The building is 5 stories high and located on a hill.
Local reykjavik airport, we're going to be there tomorrow morning.
Reykjavik from the top of the perlan building.
Fake geyser near Perlan building, they built this to illustrate how a real one works. We walked down to it and waited for it to blow its top off but it never did.
This is part of the Saga exhibit which was quite good but a bit short (30 mins). You walk around listening to narrative off an audio player from one exhibit to another. Each exhibit consisted of wax figures with a backdrop and a placard describing the scene. There were 17 of them and at the end you could wear some of the armour and have a pose.
Lauren the Harbinger of Death in Medieval times.
Me stabbing the villian who beheaded one of the bishops. That's real chain armour that I'm wearing.
After that we took a walk back to our hotel, had dinner and now it's time for bed. Tomorrow we will fly to Akureyri, the northern part of Iceland, in the morning. The adventure continues!
